Onychomycosis

Dr Nicole Leeks is now offering Lunula Laser treatment for onychomycosis.

Embarrassing and sometimes painfully disfiguring, toenail fungus is the most common foot ailment seen by podiatrists today. And until recently, sufferers of onychomycosis had few options for safely and effectively restoring strong, clear and healthy nail.

What is Onychomycosis?

Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the toenails. It is a very common condition and is estimated to infect at least 10% of the worldwide population. You may suffer from onychomycosis if you have one of more of the following symptoms:

  • Thickened nail
  • Crumbly or brittle nail
  • Nail distorted in shape or separated
  • Nail with no luster or shine
  • A dark coloured nail, caused by debris build-up

Not just an unattractive nuisance, onycomycosis can lead to permanent deformity, which may interfere with being able to wear shoes, walking, sports and other activities.

How can Laser Therapy help?

The Lunula Laser stimulates your immune system and blood flow to enable your nails to grow clear and healthy. The laser light passes through the nail without causing damage to it or the surrounding skin. Safe and effective, the Lunula Laser poses none of the risk and harmful side effect of anti-fungal medications.

If you think you might benefit from Laser Therapy and would like to arrange an appointment with Dr Nicole Leeks at the Hollywood Orthopaedic Group, please phone 9389 3844.
